The Voidwalker is a Rare creature released on Protochroma during Alpha. It is found only in Chroma Coast and its associated Delves, Low Tide, Scrap Pile, and Voidwalker Hangout, and Simulated Delve associated with its grouping, Reptilian Rendezvous. Its standard variant is Green.
Descriptions
Baby
It's a smooth, ovular egg about a foot long. The shell looks and feels sturdy, and is a slick-looking black with faint green tinges. Every now and then you see a faint green glow pulse inside, most likely whatever creature is forming inside.
Juvenile
The shell cracks with surprising ease from the inside, and a strange reptilian creature uncurls from its long confinement. The creature's eyes are a bright neon green, as are the long fins on its back and tail. The hatchling is curious and inquisitive, but also largely quiet. Despite its quietness, the creature seems to have boundless energy, running around its allowable space, jumping onto high perches, getting into supplies, and seeking out any source of water large enough to swim in. When it gets particularly excited, the air beneath its paws seems to waver and shimmer strangely.
Adult
Voidwalkers are a strange species, as intelligent as any other sapient life and yet utterly disinterested in formal communication. From what researchers are able to glean from their limited interactions, Voidwalkers are not native to Chroma at all, despite how well they have adapted to the environment—it seems they are able to quickly travel long distances via use of self-created portals. These portals can be created at will, but the Voidwalker passively creates them beneath and behind their paws when agitated or mobile. Though they can communicate verbally after learning the target language, they favour their natural, emotion-based telepathy. A Voidwalker's face is inexpressive, but its fins display clear emotion. Males carry dark black striping on these fins, thought to be intended to make them appear torn, as if he has participated in and survived many battles.
Though clever and capable of rational thinking, Voidwalkers are inquisitive to the point of putting themselves in danger in order to investigate something they are unfamiliar with—even disturbing obvious predators in their quest to do so. However, prolonged research has shown that the Voidwalker is more than capable of escaping an irate animal; they are incredibly fast runners, strong swimmers, and flexible escape artists. Indeed, though they are clearly well-adapted for terrestrial environments, their general builds and excess of fins suggest that Voidwalkers evolved in a coastal environment—thriving in and near the water, even though they can survive just about anywhere. It is thought that they were even originally abyssal animals, with glowing neon-bright markings serving to light their surroundings and attract prey. Even their scales are glossy and fishlike, proving water-tight and slippery when wet. They are exclusively predatory animals, favouring birds and fish.
Additional Lore
- Voidwalkers possess what seem to be invisible claws, which have an extendable range and come from behind the shoulder blades. They use these both to attack and to power their high jumps.
- Though their standard variant is green, many of the color variants that Voidwalkers come in can occur in the wild. A notable exception is the Obsidian variant, which lacks the bioluminescent markings of other variations and would be less likely to survive in the wild.
- A Voidwalker's markings are unique; no two individuals have the exact same pattern.
- Although they seem to have adapted well to Essence, because Voidwalkers are not native to the planet, the applying of said Essence (as well as synthetic Chroma) causes their markings to develop in patterns that would not happen on their home planet; this results in oddities such as (but not limited to) the "loops" found on female Pink and Sapphire, the "rings" found on both Rainbow variants, the spots on male Purple, and clustered markings found on female Emerald and White.
- Because of this, most Chroma variants are considered "unnatural" for Voidwalkers. The ones which aren't are as follows:
- Male: Blue, Bronze, Gold, Green, Red, Sapphire, Silver, White
- Female: Green, Purple
- Because of this, most Chroma variants are considered "unnatural" for Voidwalkers. The ones which aren't are as follows:
- Voidwalker scales contain a toxic metalloid similar to mercury. Though the trace amounts found in the scales are harmless, contact with large amounts of the metalloid in its pure form can cause neural degeneration and blood poisoning. Because of this, it is possible to be allergic to Voidwalkers if one is particularly sensitive to the toxins.
- On their home planet, the toxic metalloid causes ambient energies (referred to as Mana, Prana, and Excess) to be repelled from the Voidwalker, collecting on the surface of the scales as a thin, glossy film which gives Voidwalkers their slick, wet appearance. On Planet Chroma, Essence acts the same as these energies when making contact with Voidwalker scales. After a certain amount of buildup, the film becomes uncomfortable for the Voidwalker, and it shears the film off with its invisible claws. The film is then condensed into a translucent, crystalline form, creating Voidcores (the Voidwalker's rare Scrap).
- A group of Voidwalkers is referred to as a pod.

Trivia
- Voidwalkers are Keileon's personal mascot creature. They were directly ported from a collaborative sci-fantasy universe she is involved in.
- Voidwalkers appear in some official artwork, such as the Twitter banner and the 404 graphic. The Green female also appears as an on-site emoji.
- The male Sapphire and Emerald Voidwalkers are both references to Voidwalker OCs created by Keileon.
- The male White Voidwalker was redesigned and replaced during Beta.
